A semi-guided Bleeding London walk around Merton - led by Stephen.

Join us for a part-guided walk to hear about the history of Merton, with lots of opportunity to photograph streets in this fascinating part of SW19.

We will go to Merton Abbey Mills where Liberty fabrics were printed and William Morris set up workshops. Nearby there are fragmentary remains of a medieval priory, where Walter de Merton was educated – he went on to found Merton College, Oxford. And a little further on, there once stood the house where Lord Nelson lived with Lady Hamilton and that is why we see a number of Nelson related street names here. Plus we will learn about local property developer, John Innes, who may have been surprised to discover he is today remembered for something he did not create.
