The Royal Photographic Society Distinctions are recognised as the most prestigious in the photographic world. There are three levels, the Associate is the second level of The Society’s Distinctions and is a significant step up from the first level, the Licentiateship. The third level, the Fellowship, is the highest level of the Society’s Distinctions and only Associates of The RPS may apply.

The fundamental essence of a Contemporary submission is conception. The Panel members attach key importance to ideas and favours work by photographers who, through their photographic image making, wish to explore, define, illustrate or evaluate contemporary issues or their own particular vision of the world.

It is essential that you book onto an assessment day in order for your portfolio of work to be assessed for the ARPS.

There are only 14 places available each day for the ARPS Contemporary assessments so it is important to book ahead of time.

* It is essential to read the Associateship Handbook before applying.
