One of our regular meetings for members and guests interested in Street Photography. We re-visit Hackney, this time exploring the Broadway Market, but with a walk starting from Hackney Central Overground. This takes us past the refurbished Hackney Empire along Mare Street, diverting close to London Fields and then on to the Market.
Broadway Market dates back to the mid 19th century when it earned a reputation for providing fresh meat and poultry. After years of decline, in 2004 volunteers from the local traders’ and residents’ association set about transforming their ailing market.
Now, Broadway is one of London’s most successful (and most gentrified) local markets with 80 stalls heaving with cheeses, meat and fish, cakes and preserves and a fruit and veg stall that’s traded on the market for the past 50 years. It's now thriving with fabulous restaurants with a diverse range of fine foods, designer clothing, organic fair trade products, health product and crafts.
Exit Hackney Central Overground and meet at the junction between Amhurst Road and Mare Street at 9:45am.
