FULLY BOOKED next date 25th May 2016

Close up and macro photography reveals a visual world that we often fail to notice. The detail of insects, flowers and even everyday objects presents the potential for creating beautiful images showing texture, pattern and colour. This is an exciting and challenging form of photography, but is accessible with even basic camera equipment.

This workshop will demonstrate the techniques and equipment required to produce high-quality macro and close up images. John will review a range of alternative approaches, and demonstrate how modern software can further improve the quality and scope of macro images.

Topics will include
What is macro photography (and what isn’t)?

  • Techniques for macro and close up photography
  • Cameras, equipment and lenses for macro
  • Successful subjects for macro and close up work
  • Use of light
  • Software options for macro images

John Humphrey is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society. He is an experienced speaker and currently presents RPS workshops on Macro Photography and Creative Art Photography. He also lectures on Photographic Composition and Advanced Photoshop Techniques. His work has been in many exhibitions including the International Print and Projected Image Exhibitions of the RPS and the London Salon Annual Exhibitions. His book ‘Close-up and Macro Photography, Art and Techniques’ is available from the Crowood Press.

What to bring
Delegates can bring any equipment they use for close-up photography, including macro lens, tripod, and flash or continuous lighting. However, none of this is essential.

The workshop will take place at Amersham Studios. Delegates can bring their own cameras and equipment and try out the techniques that John demonstrates.
