Introduction to Lightroom in Chester
This course provides an introduction to Lightroom’s organisational, editing and printing tools and is suitable for a beginner.

Day schedule
10.00 Welcome and outline of the day
Topic 1: How Lightroom is different
Overview of the application, how it simplifies your workflow and the function of the Catalogue file.
Topic 2: Setting up your image archive
Advice on data storage, naming files, importing and managing your growing archive.
Topic 3: Viewing, editing and sorting
12.30 – 13.15 Lunch
Topic 4: Basic editing in the Develop module
Colour, exposure and tone control using a variety of panel tools.
Topic 5: Hand-editing techniques
Using the Selection Brush and other ‘floating’ tools, to create Lightroom-style masks.
Topic 6: Preparation for print
Using Lightroom’s new Soft-Proofing functions, we will use printer profiles and Lightroom print templates to layout contacts and finals for printing.

Computers
The course will be run on Apple iMacs, however you are very welcome to bring along your own Windows PC or Apple laptops.
What you need to bring along
Bring along a USB stick, SD card or portable hard drive with a selection of your own images. Best option is to bring RAW files, but JPEG’s are okay too. (Note: Lightroom can’t edit layered .psd/Photoshop files).

Windows users
Only drives that are in the FAT32 format can be read and written to by both Windows PC’s and Apple computers. Check the format of your external drive before you attend the course, as it may not be compatible with our Apple iMacs.
