The Contemporary SIG will hold their next AGM on Saturday 30th September 2017 in Manchester.  The day is planned for 10:00 to 16:30.  The AGM will run between 10:00 to 11:00.

A one day event is to be combined with the Contemporary SIG AGM.  Our first speaker is Derek Trillo and the second speaker Zelda Cheatle.

Derek was the first runner up in the 2014 pilot Photobook Exhibition with ‘Identifying England’ he is a freelance photographer/curator/part time tutor at Open College of the Arts.

With experience ranging from publishing photobooks, selecting for professional exhibitions, teaching and reviewing work at BA and MA level, we are very pleased to welcome Zelda Cheatle as a speaker at our AGM.  Zelda’s published books include The Shipping Forecast by Mark Power, The Street Photographs of Roger Mayne, and books by John Blakemore, Manuel Alvarez Bravo and Eve Arnold. She was lead selector for the Kraszna-Krausz annual photography book awards in 2013 and lead selector for the professional class at the Sony World Photo exhibition at Somerset House in 2017.

From 2005 to 2012 Zelda Cheatle was responsible for establishing the first Photography Fund. Primarily collecting fine prints of the 20th century, the Fund Collection included the Eve Arnold Archive of vintage prints and a significant Russian collection from Rodchenko to Lissitzky and a collection of 20th Century iconic works from Sudek to Steichen.

Zelda Cheatle has recently been advising and curating Yan Wang Preston on her photography "Mother River". Yan spoke on this at our Group meeting in April 2017.

Zelda’s talk to our Group will focus on the photobook.

See for further details.

Note: Our previous planned speaker Dewi Lewis has, with apologies, had to withdraw due to a clash of dates arising from rescheduling of work by his printers in Italy.

The focus is clearly on photobooks and there will be an opportunity for attendees to take part with Derek and Zelda in a Question and Answer session on making and publishing books.  Attendees are encouraged to bring a short sequence of pictures for review as to their potential for a photobook.

The event is free to all Contemporary SIG members with a small fee for non-members attending the non-AGM part of the day.

Note that the venue has changed - it will be held in The Town Hall Manchester, Committee Room 1.  The town hall front doors will be open from 09:00-17:00.

Members and non-members wishing to bring prints or books for review should notify Avril R Harris,, this is to ensure we allow enough time.
