We meet at Rainham Station at 10:30 am. From here it’s a short walk to the Thames. We then follow the riverside path to Purfleet; total distance about 5 miles. Along the way we’ll have some great views across the river and see the abandoned World War II concrete barges and an ancient ferry crossing point. We aim to arrive at Rainham Marshes RSPB reserve, where there is a café for refreshments, by about 2pm. There is then the option of visiting the reserve (entry £6, free to RSPB members). From here it’s about a 20-minute walk to Purfleet Station with the option of a celebratory drink to conclude the walk before heading home.

Paths may be uneven (and possibly muddy if we have had rain) in places so please wear suitable footwear. Also make sure you bring a drink to keep you hydrated and possibly also a snack as there are no refreshment points or shops until we reach the RSPB reserve.

Cancellation policy

This event is free but bookings are necessary because numbers are limited . If you book a place but subsequently find you are unable to come, please let us know so that your place can be allocated to someone on the waiting list.

Hearing and access requirements

We will be walking on some rough, unmade paths which may be muddy, so please wear appropriate footwear and bring a drink to keep you hydrated
