The London Naturally Group presents an informal Sunday morning walk along the fascinating Grand Union Canal to the historic Cemetery at Kensal Green.

Overview:  We will take a leisurely walk along the Paddington Branch of the Grand Union canal from it’s start at newly renovated Paddington Basin with it’s modern 21st century architecture, following the canal along the towpath under the Westway winding our way along past Trellick Tower to Ladbroke Grove where we’ll exit the canal and head for the historic splendour of Kensal Green Cemetery.

One of the 'Magnificent Seven'', Kensal Green dates from 1830 making it one of the oldest public burial grounds in the UK. The site boasts numerous listed building and monuments and is the final resting place for many famous individuals, as well as hosting an array of wildflowers, birds and wildlife amongst it mature trees and shrubs.

Details:   We will meet on the towpath by Exit 3 of Paddington Station at 10:30am. This exit is between the Taxi rank and the Circle & District line entrance and exits on to Paddington Basin towpath.

We will stroll along the canal towpath to Ladbroke Grove, where we will arrive about 12.00: from here it is then a short walk to the Main gate of Kensal Green Cemetery, where you will be free to explore the diversity of this fascinating historic site individually..  We will  enter via the Cemetery Main Gate and exit at the Top Gate, which is a short walk from Kensal Green Underground station.

Refreshment facilities are available at Paddington Basin and Ladbroke Grove.

N.B.   Please dress appropriately for the weather on the day with sturdy footwear and a drink to keep you hydrated. Do bear in mind that some parts of the towpath and paths in the cemetery are uneven and can become muddy/slippery if we have had rain.
