How to Photograph Vintage Cars Workshop with James Mann FRPS

This one-day workshop will be held at the Vintage Sports Car Club, Prestcott, Gloucestershire.

You will get the opportunity and guidance to shoot all the action during Prescott Long Course Hill Climb.

Free entry to the event, meet in the cafe near the start line for an informal introduction tea and coffee.

Café/ media room                                                                           10.30-1.00pm

Introduction to motorsport photography and the VSCC

  • Safety at motorsport events
  • Composition, angles, light, lens choice
  • Familiarisation with the hill climb site walk
  • Studying the program for ideas and information
  • Choosing locations for action around the site
  • Paddock walkabout, shooting details, engines, interiors, atmosphere, meeting and photographing the drivers

Shooting the action                                                                        2.-4.00pm

  • Shooting the start and the finish line
  • Panning, zoom pan, long and short lens
  • Cornering, capturing the decisive moment

Round up and questions                                       4.30pm café/ media room

What to Bring:

Recommended equipment: Bridge, compact system or SLR camera ,a range of lenses including telephoto over 70mm, flash gun  All weather clothing. Walking shoes or boots.

Please note : The Pretscott site is on a steep hillside and there will be some walking on uneven ground.

Please bring a packed lunch or use local amenities

Cancellation policy

Please inform us as soon as possible if you are unable to attend a course as it is not possible to refund any cancellation or transfer to another workshop less than 14 days prior to course start date. The Society reserves the right to cancel a workshop 7 days prior to its start date - please check your hotel and travel cancellation policy as this may be affected. If you are attending one of our workshops that involves a trip out please ensure you bring all weather clothing and protection for your camera. Persons under the age of 16 are welcome to attend events but, to conform with UK law, must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult.
