This is a Group C workshop designed to take advantage of a high tide occurring on this day. It enables you to take great long exposure shots of various coastal structures including sewage pipes (yes I know), piers, jettyies and sculptures.

We will meet outside the Manchester Bar on the Promenade, there is plenty of parking along the seafront. You will need a minimum of two hours parking here because we will move location after we have finished in Blackpool. We will begin on South Shore beach, Blackpool and then head to St. Annes and Lytham and then up to Cleveleys. The workshop will run from 10.00AM until approx. 5PM. Full tuition will be given and the use of Colin's Lee filters if you don't yet own any.

The use of filters for dramatic effect will be explored. This will cover neutral density filters to slow the shutter speed creating atmospheric water movement, graduated neutral density filters to balance the exposure between the land and sky, and extreme 'big stopper' filters to create wonderful movement in the clouds and water. Technical aspects will be explored including achieving accurate exposure using the manual setting of the camera along with making creative decisions regarding aperture and depth of field.

All locations are easily accessible, wellies will be required and you might want to pack spare socks and trousers just in case you get wet feet!

There will be a stop for a café lunch although participants are welcome to bring a packed lunch instead.

Maximum group size: 8

Clothing and equipment to bring / wear:

  • Warn clothing
  • spare trousers and socks in case you get wet
  • Wellington Boots
  • walking boots.
