Autumn has got to be the most exciting time of year for taking photographs outdoors due to its rich and diverse colour - and woodland is where colour is at its most resplendent. Covering 100 acres, Thorp Perrow Arboretum in Bedale, North Yorkshire boasts one of the largest collections of shrubs and trees in the North of England - and November is when it comes alive! Join Mark Banks for a day of sheer indulgence and learn how to take the most exquisite autumnal images. Mark will be your tutor for the full day offering sound photographic advice, tips and tricks on taking beautiful autumn woodland images. He will also help you with composition and techniques such as Intentional Camera Movement (ICM), focus staking and macro.

What to bring:

  • Camera, lenses, tripod, filters if you have them
  • Outdoor, waterproof clothing suitable for the latest forecast with plenty of layers for warmth
  • wellington boots are ideal but good walking boots would also be fine.
  • Please do NOT wear jeans as once the get wet they stay wet!
  • Hot drinks (advisable)
  • Packed lunch (optional)

Participants may bring their own lunch but there is a lovely cafe situated by the entrance offering hot soup, sandwiches and a large array of cakes and hot and cold drinks.

Hearing and access requirements

Most of the paths at Thorp Perrow consist of gravel or grass. The arboretum is primarily level with slight inclines in some places and much of it is accessible by wheelchair. Disabled toilets are available at the entrance and there are numerous benches throughout the arboretum for visitors to rest. Mobility scooters are available on a first-come first-served basis and can be reserved by calling 01677 427203
