Open to RPS members, this exhibition presented the opportunity to become a key part of the growing interest in the creation of photobooks.

Organised by The Society's Contemporary Group, this exhibition encouraged entries that approached the standards set by international photobook exhibitions, based on topics of substance and with photography of suitable strength. Also key was the book design, typography and sequencing in supporting the purpose of the book, and its overall characteristics as an object.

From the range and quality of the submissions it was clear that nearly all of the entrants had fully considered this criteria. The shortlist of 21 titles had largely been determined by the strength and value of the chosen book topic, with consideration to the photographs, book design and production values.

The winner, runners-up and three Hon.mention books were chosen from the shortlist by photobook expert Gerry Badger. The winner was a book by Karen Rangeley about how employees at a Dyers and Finishers company mark their personal spaces in the workplace. The first runner-up by Derek Trillo ARPS entitled Identifying England is about perceptions made when viewing a symbol. The second runner-up book was by Kate Wentworth LRPS on her personal responses to the light and views from the window of her house in the Yorkshire Dales. Hon.mention books were by John Eaton ARPS, Ken Holland ARPS and Tamsin Green ARPS.
