Mr Suman Bhattacharyya

I have been involved in photography since childhood and work in both monochrome and colour with a broad base of subject matter. This includes people, especially across continents, nature, wildlife, environmental and documentary. Essentially, I regard photography as an art form which allows me to look beyond the obvious and put my own interpretation on scenes, objects or situations which otherwise might be perceived by some as mundane. Although I regard the image achieved at the taking stage, in-camera, as being of paramount importance, I nevertheless see the digitally captured image as only the first stage in an exciting creative journey. My photographic "roots" are in the darkroom, but today my photography is 100% digital.

Presently I am the Master distinction holder of The Photographic Society of America (MPSA), and hold the postion of Exhibition Standards Director of Region 2 of PSA WORLDWIDE (first Asian to hold this voluntary post) alonwith “Excellence” from the International Federation of Photographic Art (EFIAP/bronze) and "Associate" from RPS. I have enjoyed exhibiting widely over a number of years and have won a number of awards for my work in India and abroad. My work has been acquired for permanent photographic collections in Europe. A judge on the international exhibition circuit, I also lecture at the Ranabir Bhattacharya Memorial Institute in India on various genres of photography.
I am fortunate to have lived and worked in some of the most photogenic areas of India, including Shyamnagar, Purulia, Odisa. I now live in Shyamnagar, West Bengal with my wife Debasree, also a keen accomplished musician & our extended family of 4 children namely Mohor, Ranadeep, Zina & Mrigana.
