The winners have been announced of the European Professional Photography Awards organised by FEP, the Federation of European Professional Photographers. Italy’s Maurizio Marcato, has been awarded first prize in the category “Commercial Images” with a shot taken for the advertising campaign of Testi Group, one of the market leaders in the processing and sale of natural stone.

FEP, the central benchmark institution for professional photography in Europe, which represents over 50,000 professional photographers, each year organises the “European Professional Photographer of the Year Awards” with the aim of promoting and acclaiming the highest of standards in the field. In the Commercial category, Maurizio Marcato was the only Italian photographer to receive an award.

This is the fourth accolade Marcato has received from the Federation of European Photographers. In 2010, he took first prize in the Monographs category of the European Photo Book of the Year Awards; in 2011 he came third in the Commercial category with a picture taken for the desi gn company Lago, and in 2012 he was awarded the top prize in the Portraits category for one of the shots from his “Mother Water” exhibition.

“On the contemporary photography and image scene, thinking philosophies are particularly fragmented, and we often find a photographic culture that has no solid foundations to support it. For this reason, I am very happy to have been honoured with this award from the most important European authority in my field”, says Maurizio Marcato, “all the more so because it has come not for one of my artistic works, but for an image created for a company”. The photographer concludes that “the secret indeed lies in not separating the two things. My artistic vision and my commercial vision are a hybrid force that I try to combine in each one of my creations, whether for an exhibition or for a business”.
