Brian Griffin HonFRPS: Work and Other Stories exhibition

Brian Griffin HonFRPS was the recipient of the RPS Centenary Medal in 2013. This was awarded to Griffin in recognition of a sustained, significant contribution to the art of photography.

Griffin, who was born in 1948 in Birmingham, began his photographic career taking corporate portraits in the early 1970s. His images have since been featured in over fifty international solo exhibitions, over twenty monographs of his work have been published, and examples of his pictures are held in institutional collections including the Victoria & Albert Museum and the National Portrait Gallery, London. His portraiture subjects range from Iggy Pop to Kate Bush.

His latest exhibition focuses on a selection of his early work from the 1970s and 1980s. Exhibited prints will include images from his books Moscow, 1974; Copyright, 1978; Power, 1981 and Work, 1988. Work was awarded the Best Photography book in the World at the Barcelona Primavera Fotografica 1991.

Drawing on his extensive back catalogue, the exhibition will include over thirty prints. Most of the works on show are vintage silver gelatin or vintage silver bromide prints and all for sale. There will also be signed copies of Copyright 1978, the first self-published photo book in the UK.
