This months competition One Small Step was selected to celebrate the opening of Space Steps: The Moon and Beyond an exhibition curated by Debbie Ireland, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing - one of humankind's most extraordinary adventures. On 20th July 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin ('Buzz') Aldrin became the first men to set foot on the surface of the Moon. Space Steps commemorates this incredible milestone and will open to the public on Friday 5th July in the RPS Gallery.

We are delighted to have Sam Cornwell ARPS as a quest judge for this month's competition. Sam is a photographic artist based in the Scottish Borders. A pioneer of the 'second a day' movement and vlogging, Cornwell is a recent Masters' graduate of Edinburgh University in which he was awarded the ESALA student award for his studies in Material Practice. He won an Astrophotographer of The Year Award and went on to found the Art in Space programme at one of the UK's largest observatories before inventing the Solarcan, the world's first commercial solargraphy camera. When not building cameras in his unusual Hawick based "red room" workshop, Sam can be found teaching photography at Heriot-Watt University, working as a photography archivist for a local castle trust or raising his two young dizzying children.

The three winners from this months competition will be featured in the RPS Journal and will receive a Solarcan kindly donated by Sam.

Space Steps: The Moon and Beyond events will be held during the fascinating show including a workshop led by Sam Cornwell. Please visit the RPS website regularly as we are adding to the list of talks, workshops and special events all the time.
