Winner of the Documentary Group 1st bi-monthly Competition

06 March 2017

SIG: Documentary

DG member Bob Train was selected by the judges as the winner of our first bi- monthly competition for his image ‘Life on the Tube’.   Congratulations to Bob.   His prize, a signed copy of Stuart Franklin’s ‘Documentary Impulse’, is in the post.

The quality of entries was high and we had difficulty selecting the winner as we all had very different views on those we preferred.   But, in the end Bob came out as the winner.   All entries will be posted as a DG portfolio on the RPS website and I hope it will inspire you all to enter.

Can I ask you to bear in mind that the title of the image, reflecting the content of the photograph, is important.

The next bi-monthly competition will end on 30 April 2017 for images taken after 1 February 2017.   Rules can be found at http://www.rps.org/special-interest-groups/documentary/about/the-documentary-group--bi-monthly-competition---28-february-is-next-closing-date.

A word on the judging.   Steve puts up the images to a private file, after checking that the entrant is a member of the DG, with the membership number and image title for each entrant. The file is shared with the Committee when the competition closes and each member chooses three images.   Membership numbers are only checked for names on completion of the judging process.   So it’s as anonymous as we can make it.

We look forward to seeing your entries for the next competition.
