About this image

On February 22nd 2011, Christchurch, New Zealand was hit with a major earthquake which nearly destroyed New Zealand’s second largest city. This rubble is all that remains of a beautiful Gothic stone church, just south of the city centre. As many damaged buildings were pulled down and cleared away, people re-activated rubble-strewn sites with conceptual installations, such as this washline with laundry. The laundry endured for nearly three months before the Christchurch Historic Preservation Society ordered it to be taken down.
