About this image

A child from Tiririca dos Crioulos - a former slave’s descendant. Living in a land without legal guarantees of ownership, these people survive by farming and ranching in the semi-arid region of Pernambuco state, north-eastern Brazil. Today, they are in the longest period of drought in the last 30 years. They mostly depend on government assistance. Meanwhile, the Brazilian National Congress, composed by a lot of landowners and evangelicals, want to change the Constitution and take on the power of demarcation, currently exercised by the Government.
