This course is delivered online and provides you with the skills required to make an eye-catching photobook with Lightroom software and Blurb the book printer. Suitable for a beginner this course shows you how to best prepare your image files for book printing, an in-depth exploration of Lightroom’s Book module together with a thorough understanding of all Blurb’s book, paper and printing options. The workshop is ideal for those who have a photobook project ready to make.
The course uses Lightroom Classic software for both Mac and Windows PC users.
The workshop is run using Zoom video conferencing software and you will be able to watch and interact with your tutor during each topic presentation and ask questions throughout the day. All notes are provided to you before the event starts, together with tips on how to use Zoom, if you’ve never used it before.
We encourage you to share questions and work in progress images with other delegates, although this is entirely optional.

Welcome and outline of the day
Topic 1: Image preparation in Lightroom. Learn how to prepare your images for high quality photobook printing, examining the best file formats, resolution and settings for both colour and monochrome photographs. Learn about the best colour profile to use and how to deploy soft-proofing.
Topic 2: Lightroom’s Book module. Learn how to layout your book using templates and how to get the best out of Lightroom’s sophisticated typesetting tools. Exploring different fonts and layout styles we’ll be generating custom page templates for both images and text.
13.00 Lunch break
Topic 3: Printing your book with Blurb Learn about book formats, sizes, papers and cover options with a full explanation of the costs involved. Discover how to upload and order your book and how to make it available for public sale and set your profit margin. Learn how to market your photobook project on social media
Topic 4: Fine tuning. In the final part of the workshop, we’ll explore all the tools and techniques for checking and proofing your draft photobook before printing. Using the PDF option, we’ll learn how to spot errors in image resolution, bleeds, layout and text.

The Tutor: Dr Tim Daly is Senior Lecturer in Photography at Chester University.
His specialist subjects are photography production and artist's publishing. Tim teaches on all levels of the BA Photography programme with special responsibility for practice based modules, and also contributes to the MA Fine Art programme. Tim has had many photography books published, and has been teaching RPS workshops for a number of years.
