Robin Maddock photographer in discussion with Johnny Pitts the acclaimed writer of the 2019 book Afropean, photographer and now presenter of 'open book' on Radio 4.
The pair will discuss Robin's new book England or... , a book with a different title in every copy. It's result of five years of documentary work after the Brexit vote, Robin set out to find out more about the country of his birth. A country that we have seen has torn apart over issues of identity, race, money, inequality, space and versions of history.
The talk aims to reflect on these long term atmospheres, artefacts of decline, with a kind of honesty and humour that only an ambivalent affection for this odd place we call England, can muster.
They will probably end up talking about photography too and some of the issues raised in Pitts’s essay on England accompanying the book.
