The celestial world of South Indian Temples  - Through My Lens

South India is well known for its ancient temples, that are celebrated for their exquisite vast spaces, unique art and architecture that include ornate pillars, magnificent 100 pillared and 1000 pillared halls, three dimensional temple turrets and sacred shrines dedicated to the various Gods and Goddesses of the Hindu pantheon. They are treasure troves that attract the ardent devotees and the archaeologists, the historians and the committed connoisseurs of art.

In my presentation, I will be talking about two outstanding temples, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Srirangam and Tirumala. While Srirangam is known as Bhooloka Vaikuntam, (the abode of Lord Vishnu on earth), Tirumala is recognized as ‘Kaliyuga Vaikuntam’ (the abode of Lord Vishnu belonging to this age).

I will take the audience on a tour through these two temples, while elucidating its interesting history, its remarkable art and architecture and vibrant festivals, that will help us to acknowledge these places of worship as not only pilgrim centres but also as a hotspot where our heritage and culture thrives.

Along with my wife, Vrinda, I have authored two coffee table books, describing the various aspects of these two temples - Srirangam, Bhooloka Vaikuntam and Tirumala, Kaliyuga Vaikuntam.
