Donna Bridgewater teaches Photography and Mixed Media at Hereward College, lecturing to students with learning and physical disabilities. She runs a Photography business called Bridgewater Photography, which she created with support of The Prince’s Trust. Donna specialises in individual and family portraits, events and product photography. She has continued her Prince’s Trust journey since she was awarded the Enterprise Regional Award in 2018, continuing her support for the Trust by working in the role of Youth Ambassador.
Donna has a passion for portraits and documentary photography. A few years ago she completed a work placement at Coventry Telegraph Newspaper which enabled her to enhance her skills capturing a story in images. It is this skill that she has employed in her latest work.
During the pandemic Donna has been creating a project called ‘Getting Through This’. She has been chronicling people's emotions during the coronavirus pandemic to create a conversation about mental health. The main inspirations for the project came from the loss of her Sister to suicide in 2019 and often hearing in the media how COVID-19 is affecting so many lives, leading to more mental health illnesses and suicide.
She has been connecting with people in the Birmingham community, giving them a platform to open up about their own emotions and feelings around the current pandemic. In each of the portraits the subject displays a powerful but positive message to help people get through these uncertain times. The project has recently been published on BBC Midlands News, https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-56125826
