Creative In-Camera FX with Tony Sweet

Event info

We all want our work to stand out, but it is becoming increasingly difficult in the modern world of digital imaging where there are upwards of 40,000,000 million photos uploaded daily. Tony Sweet feels that if we stick to our guns and photograph with our hearts as well as our heads, we can rise above the sea of photographers and camera owners.

Tony says: “It’s interesting, if we are receptive, how a single image or concept or properly placed word or idea can dramatically change our path. About 25 years ago I saw a multiple exposure image by Freeman Patterson, felt an affinity, took his workshop, and instantly adopted the technique into my work. In this presentation I will share the techniques and the creation of image swipes (aka ICM - Intentional Camera Movement) and multiple exposures. We will also touch on infrared and very long exposures as other means of creative expression because both can be accomplished in-camera, using a neutral density filter and an infrared filter on a colour camera.”

The discussion and illustrations should open up possibilities and jump start the viewers’ creativity.

Coming from an artistic background as a professional jazz artist and professional close-up magician (sleight-of-hand artist), Tony settled on photography as his chosen means for personal expression. His transition from jazz artist to nature photographer was seamless, as both require an improvisational nature and an ability to adapt to quickly changing conditions. Over the last 30 years, Tony has become an in-demand speaker throughout the United States and Canada on photography and creativity.

Tony was named as a Nikon Legend Behind the Lens and has been published worldwide in every medium. He is represented by Getty Images. His images are also used by Nikon, Exposure Software, Singh Ray, Topaz, Lensbaby and others for national ad campaigns. He has authored eight books, contributed to many others, co-produced an educational DVD series, and teaches and lectures throughout the US, Canada, Iceland and Cuba.

Tony is co-owner, along with Susan Milestone, of their Visual Artistry Location Workshops Series. Tony also conducts Visual Artistry Creativity Seminars, 1 ON 1 virtual training sessions, private workshops, and ZOOM presentations to photographic societies worldwide.
