Order and Design in Landscape Photography with Steve Gosling
Two related sessions around composition in landscape photography:
In the first session Steve Gosling will give a presentation on ‘Order and Design in Landscape Photography’ in which he will give an introduction to composition by talking about how he designs his photographs, why & when he advocates breaking the rules and how he uses compositional techniques to communicate mood and emotion. He will show images to demonstrate the points he is making as well as giving participants the opportunity to ask questions at the end. The talk would last around 1 hour followed by a 30 minute Q&A.
Participants would then be given an exercise to go away and produce two/three images for discussion/review in Session 2.
All three should aim to demonstrate one of the ideas talked about in Session1 and at least one of these should set out to deliberately break the rules – with an explanation of why this was done and why the photographer thinks it works.
Images should be sent to Steve prior to Session 2 which will take place about 4-6 weeks later. - In Session 2 each participant 2/3 images would be shown and Steve would critique/review them from a compositional perspective. There would also be a group discussion on the points raised during the critique. This session would last 2 hours.
