THIS WORKSHOP IS THREE SESSIONS DATES BELOW AND IDENTICAL CONTENT TO TEXTURES 1 and 3
Define texture: the visual and tactile quality of a surface. Textures make the subject in an image tactile, touchy-feely and tangible. Texture brings life and vibrancy to images that may otherwise appear flat and uninspiring. When a photo makes you want to touch it – it has texture, feel the delicate edges of flower petals, the silkiness of the fabric, the roughness of the rust and concrete, the artist’s palette knife or brush strokes.
Textures can enhance the beauty of an image in numerous ways, whether captured by camera or created from scratch to meet the needs of the image concerned.
This workshop covers:
· the creation of textures from scratch
· considerations for capturing by camera
· application of textures to images, showing the use of blend modes to achieve the desired creation of the final textured image.
SESSION 1 [Full Group]: OVERVIEW OF TEXTURES
Introduction and Overview: Celia will discuss the considerations for making your own textures and for candidates that make suitably captured images. Both methods refer to the visual quality of the surface of an object, revealed through variances in shape, tone, lighting and colour.
Photoshop tutorial: How to create your own textures – this live demonstration with encouraged Q and A will explore the filters, adjustment layers, combinations of layers and filters, best practices in Photoshop, use of brushes to build up and make textures. We will make both complex and simple textures with the focus on building up a library of digital papers that can be modified and applied to a range of images.
SESSION 2: [Individual project work]
This is your opportunity to review and research the work of your favourite artists and photographers. Create an inspiration board of images with textures that inspire you, be prepared to talk about what feelings these images invoke.
