Our first meeting of the 2021-22 season will take place at Eastbourne and will be held at:
Eastbourne and District Indoor Bowls Association,
5 Hampden Park Drive,
Eastbourne, BN22 9QR
at 11am on Saturday 2nd October.
We have chosen Eastbourne as it is central to the whole RPS South East Region and we do hope you can join us. After the meeting we will have the opportunity for an informal photo walk around Eastbourne.
Hamden Park is about 3 miles from the pier at Eastbourne and has good parking and spacious rooms, giving us the chance to meet in a Covid safe manner utilising well separated small tables. Meeting in person will give us an opportunity to catch up with other group members, which was not possible in Zoom meetings. Refreshments will be available from the bar.
Attendance fee is £5, cash only. We will be taking lateral flow tests before coming and we would like you to do the same to minimise the risk of Covid infection.
The meeting will allow us to discuss and share our work and also what we are looking for from the group and whether that aligns with our current general purpose and objectives as set out below. Caroline Preece, an experienced facilitator and a fine photographer, has agreed to guide us through the meeting.
After this session we will break for lunch/refreshments and then split off into groups for the photo walk.
Please let me know if you are planning to attend by emailing me at: email@example.com
The group has tried to promote documentary photography during the time of the Covid 19 pandemic, one of the most significant events in most of our lives, but also one when our activities have been severely limited by both official and self-imposed restrictions on our movement. Nevertheless, we feel we have been successful in bringing a series of leading photography practitioners to speak to us via Zoom. It has been the ambition of the group to promote excellence in documentary photography. Also, we feel the group should stand out from other, more general, photographic organisations; and challenge our members to make important work. A key role for the group is to be engaging, sharing our projects as they are developed.
Now, after a year and a half of lockdown, we want to assess where we are, revisit the reasons the SE Documentary Group exists and review our objectives (set out below in a slightly modified form).
A forum for people to develop their ability in Documentary Photography at a higher level throughout the South East region.
- To produce individual projects (anything from single images to long-form work) which reflect current issues.
- To publish or show these works in relevant forums: in book form; as magazine articles; as an exhibition; as audio-visual pieces.
- Developing individual projects.
- Meeting to discuss work among ourselves or other like-minded photographers.
- Inviting stimulating speakers to discuss their work and practice.
- Developing our skills through workshops and photo walks.
- Peer reviewing of our work. This would be among ourselves, and by inviting established photographers to assist.
