An on-location workshop for up to six participants. Tickets will go on sale on 1 April
Summer colour is at its most vibrant at this time of year with colourful heather, summer flowers and yellow gorse decorating the countryside. This location on the edge of the North York Moors offer fine views of Hawnby Hill and surrounding moorland countryside. Early evening we will travel the short distance to Sutton Bank Visitor Centre and take a leisurely stroll along the edge of Sutton Bank for big vistas over the Vale of York.
Professional tutor Mark Banks will be on hand throughout the day providing tuition on composition as well as demonstrating the correct use of graduated filters. This will also be the ideal location for a sunset if there is one.
This workshop is not suitable for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility. On the early evening session we will take a steady walk approximately one mile from the car park to our location along a flat path which has a short incline.
Please bring a drink and packed lunch to last for the whole day. At some point we will drive the short distance to Sutton Bank to use the toilets.
Suitable walking footwear is essential and clothing to suit the forecast is also required. Even in summer it can get quite chilly as the sun goes down, so please pack a coat, too. Suntan lotion and a hat may also be required on hot days - and an umbrella for rainy days. Mark encourages participants to take images in whatever weather, therefore this workshop will not be cancelled due to inclement weather. So, please do not book if you intend to cancel if it rains!
Please also bring:
Camera, charged batteries, memory card
graduated filters (1, 2 & 3 stop hard graduated filters) if you have them
small change for car parks.
This will be a group C event for up to six people.
Ticket prices for this event include a £2 carbon offsetting charge. For more information click here.
If still applicable, he workshop leader will be following safe practices in line with social distancing guidance and will require participants to do the same. Please do not attend if you do not wish to comply.

Cancellation by us
Event leaders are asked to make plans for alternative activities or locations in the case of poor weather and, in most cases, events will proceed despite poor weather unless, in the view of the event leader, the weather will lead to unacceptable safety risks or very little chance of successful photography. It is inevitable, however, that occasionally an event will be postponed or cancelled for this or another reason beyond the RPS’s control. If an event is postponed we will transfer your booking to the rearranged event, with the option of a refund if the rescheduled date is not suitable for you.
Occasionally an event may also be cancelled owing to lack of bookings. So if you wish to attend an event, don’t leave it till the last minute to book as it may be too late.
If an event is cancelled we will give you as much notice as we are able and any payment by you to the RPS in respect of the event offered as a full refund. In the case of events cancelled because of lack of interest we will aim to give at least three weeks’ notice wherever possible.
Please note we are NOT able to refund any associated or consequential costs including but not limited to travel, accommodation, insurance premium or other costs incurred by you in order to attend the event.
