Layers and Masks are fundamental to to the concept of non-destructive editing in Photoshop, and they have been part of the application since version 3.0 way back in 1995. There have been lots of developments since then (especially the introduction of Smart Objects and Filters), but the overall philosophy remains unchanged from 25 years ago.
Understanding how Layers and Masks operate is the key to being able to use them effectively for any selective procedures eg. sharpening, noise reduction. The session will include both an introduction to how they work and examples of how they can be used in practice.
