London:Urban - Follow the Elephant
Event info
The first Field Trip/Site Visit for the newly (re)formed London Urban Micro-group will be held today.
Details. After a briefing over coffee (meet up information below), we will be exploring the immediate area under the banner of “Follow the Elephant”
There is ample opportunity for the urban photographer in this rapidly changing area, which has a memorial to Victorian scientist Michael Faraday, and is also known for the nightclub “Ministry of Sound”. London College of Communications (part of UAL) has a campus there, as has the South Bank University and the Metropolitan Tabernacle still dominates despite the new high rise buildings.
But all at Elephant & Castle is not too serious - you will need to come along to 'Follow the Elephant' to see and enjoy some of the brightly coloured wall art and graffiti such as the image above, and the tinsel-dressed elephant statues inside the Shopping Centre!
You may wish to join me (Roger T) to explore the area (please do) or you may wish to explore on your own or in groups. The choice will be yours on the day.
Meet up is at 11:00am at Caffe Castello on the 1st floor of the Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre. It’s very close to the shopping centre exit of the National Rail station. If you are travelling by tube (Bakerloo and Northern lines) take the Shopping Centre Exit and then enter the Centre at street level.
THIS EVENT IS FREE AND OPEN TO MEMBERS AND NON-MEMBERS
ALL WELCOME BUT BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL.
