Event info

WE ARE SORRY BUT THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

The London Region Volunteers are very pleased to be bringing back our programme of photowalks - see the list for August here. On this, the fourth of five August walks, London,Naturally invite you to explore Woodberry Wetlands.

Overview

We will meet at Manor House Station at 11:00am and take a short walk along the New River to the entrance to the reservoirs. We will then explore this compact oasis aiming to complete the walk by 13:00.  The Coal House Cafe is open so lunch will be available for those who wish. Although the official walk will finish at 1 o'clock, participants will, of course be able to stay on for further photography and exploration in their own time.

More details:

The Woodberry Wetlands is an operating reservoir originally constructed in 1833 and closed to public access.  Working closely with Thames Water, London Wildlife Trust created an urban wetland oasis rich in wildlife, which opened on 1st May 2016.

We will take a leisurely walk along paths around the reservoirs, stopping at various points.  Birds we are likely to see include grey herons, geese, grebes, many species of duck and smaller birds such as dunnock, tits and chaffinches.  Kestrels, reed warblers and kingfishers have also been sighted.  In addition to the birds, the site is home to invertebrates such as damselflies and dragonflies, as well as amphibians and plant life

Most of the walk will be on surfaced or gravel paths, including a few steps, but is uneven in places so please make sure you wear appropriate footwear. Also please remember to bring a drink to keep you hydrated.

To sign up:

To sign up for the event, please e-mail Jen at london-naturally@rps.org copy Judy at this email londonweb@rps.org. - places will be allocated strictly on a 'first come, first served' basis, and Judy will run a consolidated waiting list for all five August walks. Initially, we are asking you to only sign up for your preferred walk.

We are very much looking forward to picking up our programme of photowalks again and to catching up with you: it has been a long time!  We do however have to add some special notes below:

The walk leaders will be following safe practices in line with social distancing guidance and will require participants to do the same.

In addition to the usual reminders about wearing sensible shoes and being prepared for the weather (be it hot or cold, wet or dry!), please remember face coverings (for public transport and any time spent in shops or stores) and hand sanitisers.  Also most retailers are no longer accepting cash, so make sure you have a contactless payment card with you.

Should government advice change and local lockdowns occur, for example, causing us to cancel the event, we will contact you as soon as we can.  However, please keep alert for any potential changes and contact us if you have doubts as to whether the walk will run as planned, or not.
