15/12 London:Midweek Explorers: Visit Twickenham

Event info

We will meet at Twickenham Station from where we will walk to Church Street, an ancient thoroughfare and home still to some interesting independent traders, including a tea/coffee shop, where we can have refreshments.

We can explore this small village area and look across the river to Eel Pie Island remembering its music history stemming back to the 20s. We can also see the boatyards and possibly see people working there on their boats or on commission for others.

Although there are many historic sights to see in the area, time will only allow us on this occasion to explore a small part of Twickenham. We can make a brief detour into York House Gardens (statue photographed above) which may be of interest depending on the weather! Our walk will then take us along the Thames Path beside Marble Hill Park and Cambridge Gardens - a flat and largely good walking path, with good views of Richmond and Richmond Hill across the River.

We will soon arrive in Richmond, where we hope to have a Christmas Lunch.

REGISTRATION IS ESSENTIAL

Come prepared for the weather! If we arrive in Twickenham and the weather is uninspiring, we can always take the bus into Richmond Town where there are plenty of warm dry cafes!

Pre-registration is ESSENTIAL.

We will be operating a waiting list.
