London Wildlife & Nature Group visit Walthamstow Wetlands

Field Trip to Walthamstow Wetlands Tuesday July 20th

Walthamstow Wetlands is a 211 hectare nature reserve managed by London Wildlife Trust. It is also a working site with 10 reservoirs supplying drinking water to London. There is a visitor centre, cafe and toilets in a Victorian era engine house. All facilities are now open. Link:- Walthamstow Wetlands | London Wildlife Trust (wildlondon.org.uk)

Meet at 10:30 am at the visitor centre. The address is 2 Forest Road, Walthamstow, N17 9NH. The main entrance is on Ferry Lane/Forest Road and is a 10 minute walk from either Tottenham Hale or Blackhorse Road stations (Victoria line). There is a visitor car park. No booking is required and there is no entrance fee.

The site is mainly water and wildfowl will be the main interest in a variety of habitats with some wildflowers along the paths. The bird hides may be open depending on the current Covid restrictions.There will be a follow up online event for image sharing from the day

Access

The Engine House and main concrete pathway through the site are accessible for wheelchair users and those with walking difficulties. As a nature reserve the remaining pathways on the wetlands site are dirt track so may be uneven or muddy in places. The Engine House has a platform lift and there are accessible toilets with ramp entry.
