London:Bookworms July Meeting August Sander
Event info
Meetings of the Bookworm Club take place monthly, on the 3rd Wednesday of the month when a member of the Group introduces the work of a photographer of their choice.
The subject of the July session of RPS Bookworms will be the portrait photographer August Sander. August Sander spent decades attempting to create a comprehensive survey of Germany in the first half of the 20th century through portraiture. His democratic approach, ranging across all levels of society, inevitably brought him into conflict with the Nazis and the project remained uncompleted at his death. Many of the finest images are to be found in August Sander Masterpieces, published by Schirmer/Mosel. Fred Sansom will review the book and the life.
