Rinko Kawauchi

London:Bookworms June Meeting The work of Rinko Kawauchi

Event info

Meetings of the Bookworm Club take place monthly, on the 3rd Wednesday of the month when a member of the Group introduces the work of a photographer of their choice.  Interesting and varied!

This month, Sarah Kenrick will introduce the work of contemporary Japanese photographer, Rinko Kawauchi.

The photography of Rinko Kawauchi (b, Japan 1972) captures the intimate and fleeting moments of the world around her. She is drawn to “small events glimpsed in passing” and her subjects, such as a bowl of rice, her daughter’s first haircut or a passing cloud, are elevated from the everyday to the sublime. Rooted in Shinto, the ethnic religion of Japan, and interspersed with haiku poetry, her photobooks reflect the transience of nature and the beauty of fragility.
