London Street September Photowalk to Homerton and Clapton

Event info

Our regular monthly Street Walk - this month we will be breaking new ground with a trip to Homerton and Clapton

This is basically a circular walk, which will start and finish at Homerton Station. The walk in total is about 4.5 km. We will meet at the station for a 10:30am start. I propose a stop at Venetia's Coffee Shop, 55 Chatsworth Road, Clapton for coffee and a comfort break after the first kilometre of our exploration. Venetia's has a covered garden restaurant area at the rear, which is quite pleasant and spacious.

Our walk will take us along Chatsworth Road, as stated above, stopping for coffee along the way. The internet tells me that Chatsworth Road is "one of London's longest high streets. It was laid out from 1867 onwards, along a path through open fields, specifically designed to provide shops for a bustling new Victorian suburb". It certainly has retained many interesting shops and buildings, and although undergoing some level of gentrification, much of the old character remains.

After our exploration of Chatsworth Road, we will turn right into Millfields Road, where we can enjoy some interesting Street Art and then on past Hackney School of Food (peer through the gates to see their beautiful kitchen garden) to cross the River Lee Navigation to Hackney North Marsh. Here we will join the towpath It is a very busy and vibrant with much for the photographer to enjoy.

Crossing back over the canal we will join Daubeney Road and we will have rather a long walk through suburban Homerton/Clapton to our lunch stop at La Mela, at the junction with Marsh Hill. La Mela serves anything from a coffee to a full meal, but I can thoroughly recommend their pizza!

For those who won't wish to stay for lunch, we will give you directions for the short walk back to Homerton Station via an intriguing passage way and more artwork.
