21/02 London:Midweek Explorers visit Brixton and Stockwell
Event info
Today we begin our photo walk in Brixton, a vibrant, multicultural area in south London, which has Caribbean roots. The meet up point is Max’s Snack Bar in Brixton Station Road, Brixton. As you exit Brixton TUBE Station (Victoria line) turn right onto Brixton Road, walk underneath the railway bridge, and then turn right on Brixton Station Road. Max’s Snack Bar is a little further along this road, on the right-hand side, before you reach Brixton Recreation Centre
After coffee we will explore Electric Avenue, the Brixton Markets and Windrush Square.
We then head up Brixton Road, passing the David Bowie Mural, and turning left onto the Stockwell Road, we soon reach the Skate Park, where there are lots of good action shots and shots of street art etc.
Continuing on towards Stockwell, we make our way to the Stockwell Hall of Fame. Here there is much Street Art in old Basketball (or similar) courts (GLOWING TECHNICOLOUR doesn’t quite do this justice), and you may find some artists at work.
We end up at Stockwell Station (Victoria and Northern Line); the building in the nearby roundabout is worth a visit on its own. Nearby Leila’s Corner, a café on the Clapham Road offers an opportunity for coffee and/or lunch."
REGISTRATION IS ESSENTIAL
Come prepared for the weather! If we arrive in Twickenham and the weather is uninspiring, we can always take the bus into Richmond Town where there are plenty of warm dry cafes!
We will be operating a waiting list.
