London Street March Photowalk to Wembley

Event info

For our walk this month, we are going to visit Wembley.

Iconic Stadium, Modern Architecture and People!

Meeting Point

The meeting point is very close to Wembley Park Tube Station – Jubilee and Metropolitan Lines.   (The Jubilee Line is direct from Waterloo but The Metropolitan Line has fewer stops and you may wish to change onto the Met Line at Baker Street or Finchley Road – the time saving is about 4 minutes!).

Leave Wembley Park Tube Station and follow the signs to Wembley Stadium.  Down the steps under Bobby Moore Bridge and just to the right is Black Sheep Coffee, 2 Olympic Way, London HA9 0GU.  Link.  The coffee is pretty decent (we think) and they have toilets.

For those who arrive early there is a mural on the wall opposite, which tells the history of Wembley/Wembley Stadium.

We will walk up Olympic Way towards the Stadium seeing various things on the way: on our right, Brent Civic Centre and Library which is (or was in 2013) recognised as the greenest public building in the UK, in front of which is an open space with photographically interesting orange benches and “trick” mirrors.

We will go up the steps to the Stadium as far as the Bobby Moore Statue and walking clockwise we will pass the Rugby Leage Legends statue also.   The walk round the Stadium gives interesting views:  we will endeavour to go all the way round as far as Spanish Steps (but we were blocked on Sunday when we did our recce and had to do a brief detour!).

We will then  join Lakeside Way until we come to White Horse Square and the iconic White Horse Bridge.  We will then skirt around by the Arena, walk through the Outlet Centre (better than it sounds) before congregating again in front to the Civic Centre and making decisions about Lunch!

Lunch Options – near, or further afield!

This is not a long walk.   Some may wish to call it a day in Wembley Park, where the Outlet Centre has many options for lunch and also some interesting reflections, colours, shapes and again people to photograph.   There is also an option to extend have lunch in the famous Ace CafeMotorbikes, Cars & Rock & Roll, which is about 2 Kms to walk, but bus and tube alternatives are available. (Return from the Ace Cafe via the Bakerloo Line from Stonebridge Park).  You can choose on the day

Other Options

If you are interested, there is an option of doing a Wembley Stadium Tour at your own expense:  Adults £22.00, Concessions & Accessible £15.00  Website HERE.

N.B.  When we visited to do the recce on Sunday, it was bitterly cold and the wind in particular on the upper level at the stadium was fierce!   Come dressed warmly, please!!
