Marc Riboud For RPS Website

London Bookworms October 2022 HYBRID.

Event info

Marc Riboud (1923-2016) was a “reporter-photographe” recognized for his elegant and perceptive coverage of everyday life and historical events alike. “A privileged witness and a humanist, [Marc Riboud] brushes along cardinal or dramatic events across the world and always invites us to think that light can reach Man’s heart.” (Lorène Durret, director of the association “Les Amis de Marc Riboud”.)

Invited into the Magnum photo agency by Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Capa, Riboud was one of the first European reporters to visit China in 1957. Over 70 years of activity, he made multiple and long visits to the Middle East, Asia, Africa, the USA, and Japan, producing a remarkable portfolio of iconic and elegant pictures. His in-depth reportages have been published in more than 60 books, in the international press and in numerous exhibitions.

The talk will refer to 2 favourite books: “Marc Riboud: 60 years of photography” (2014) and “Chine: instantanés de voyage” (1980). It will use the material generously authorized by the association “Les Amis de Marc Riboud”. The association is hosted at the Musée Guimet in Paris to prepare exhibitions, books and projects to keep Riboud’s legacy alive.
