RPS London Nature Group Field Trip
Event info
Field Trip to Barnes Wetlands - Thursday 26 January
Barnes Wetlands Centre is one of 10 WWT wetland reserves across the UK. It is a 100 acre site in SW London formed from four disused Victorian reservoirs in a loop in the Thames. The centre first opened in 2000 and in 2002 an area of 29.9 hectares was designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
The centre attracts many migratory birds, some who come and overwinter here, others just pass through. Many birds have made it their permanent home and can be seen year-round. In addition to the interest provided by the wildlife, the centre is well-equipped with a good cafe, observatory, several hides at various locations around the reserve, a small art gallery and a shop - walks round the reserve are not only for the serious wildlife enthusiast but provide a place to relax and enjoy nature for all.
We will meet at 10:00 am at the visitor centre cafe.
The RPS London Region makes no charge for these events but there is an admission fee for those who are not members of WWT.
