Simon Paul Sugden – Suggy to his friends is Yorkshire born and bred – born in Ilkley he now resides just outside of Keighley.
Whilst always having an interest in photography it has come from modest beginnings with the picking up his first DSLR some twelve years ago in the form of a Canon 500D he now uses somewhat more sophisticated equipment for his professional work.
Simon has a number of notable achievements not least the publication in 2020 of his historic and evocative book “Derelict Britain – Beauty in Decay”. He also had a very successful exhibition for three months in 2019 at the Cliffe Castle Museum, Keighley.
Simon has built up a substantial body of work in his professional career starting with his earliest work of the World Heritage site at Saltaire. Often subtly lit his evocative pictures allow us a tantalising peek into an almost secret and certainly disappearing world. But that the pictures are both artistic and an important historical record is no better illustrated than by his considerable archive of photographs of Drummond Mills in Bradford. This important 19th century building was completely destroyed by fire in 2016.
