A party of 12 Nature Group Members and local nature photographers met on Saturday at around 8.30am and were soon rewarded by the first views of a Short-eared Owl as it came too close and too quick to photograph well.
We took a walk along the road and watched a pair of Cattle Egrets taking worms on the bank and a Kestrel perched on a roof watching for prey.
Once the Centre was open, we visited the cafe for a warming drink and then onto the main reserve overlooking the Ouse Washes. The water levels have gone down enough to use the basement hide to photograph ducks, swans etc at water level.
After lunch, some went on the organised hare walk around Lady Fen while others walk the 4.5 kilometres right round Lady Fen and had some more view of the Short-eared Owl, Stonechats and a Hare very close resting in its Form.
We also had good views of Roe Deer and Chinese Water Deer, all three Egrets (Great, Little and Cattle) and Tree Sparrow.
