Secret Places of Devon and Cornwall

As an RPS Regional member we are inviting every one of you to participate in a new project we are putting together for summer 2022.

We are the lucky ones.  We live in two of the most beautiful counties in England where many people know only too well the tourist hot spots – those places where the legs of the tripods dig ever deeper holes and everyone comes away with their version of what has gone before.  But as locals we also know the hidden gems – the secret places that are less well known and photographed.  It is these ‘secret places’ that we challenge you to shoot.

Just think - if every one of you were to send us your own little ‘secret place’ we would have a beautiful collection of 400+ images that would showcase not just your skills as photographers but also what an amazing place we all live in.

This collection will go up on an online exhibition on the Regions web pages and would display your work.  This might be a hidden beach, a less trod woodland walk, a pretty little back corner of a town or village, a pond or a wide vista.  Only you know where the little gems are and you can surprise and delight us all by showing us these secret places.

The challenge is for you to shoot your image during the months of June and July.

It really doesn’t matter whether you use a smart phone or a Hasselblad. The image can be landscape or portrait mode, it can be colour, mono, IR, straight work or creative.  You should title the image file as follows – please read this very carefully as you may need to set your camera to ensure you aren’t taking 72dpi images.

Once processed and prepared to the correct format you email your image(s) to southwestwebs@rps.org  You may enter a max of 2 images.

So no shyness now – your work deserves to be displayed,

so get out and get shooting.

To submit images

Please send your images to southwestweb@rps.org.  They should be titled as follows

forename_surname_RPSletters_title-of-your-image.jpg

(note the underscores and hyphens to be used please).

If you do not have an RPS Distinction not to worry, just leave that section out; but if you have then we’d love to acknowledge that when we post your image.

Only jpg images, preferably sRGB and sized at 300dpi and the longest side 3000px.   This will provide us with files for the web site and the ultimate magazine.

In the email please tell us where you took the photo and whether that is in Devon or Cornwall, your name and the email address we should use if we need to contact you.

Photos should be taken and submitted during June and July; no robbing your library!  We want to see new work and to encourage you to get shooting.  You can send in a maximum of 2 images and you don’t have to wait for the deadline but can do it as you take and process them - final deadline for submission is August 14th.

All work must be your own work and must not include any elements of clip art etc or internet created materials.

Please note we can only accept images that are prepared to the correct format and size.

Any queries please contact either southwestweb@rps.org or southwestchair@rps.org
