At Woosehill on the 26th March there was a great presentation by Justin Minns. Well done Alan and the gang and well done to Justin on getting his FRPS last week. Just before that on the 23 rd a group of us met up in the afternoon at the Bodelian for 2 really interesting exhibitions by the founders of British Photography with a personal guide by Prof Geoff Batchen. In the morning we headed out for some ‘Street’ Photography ( Photo courtesy of Carol Drew)

Events needing your attention

AI and the future of Photography 27th April

Khatija and I have been working for months on this project which I think is really important to us all. We have two presentations coming up, one by Shutterstock on the 27th April and the second by Adobe on the 21st June both being hosted by Simon Hill and involving really senior people in the sector. I recommend that you sign up through the RPS events web page.

Bluebell walk – Late April early May keep an eye on Website, Facebook etc for date and location

Model Day 24th May

This is a rare opportunity to work in a pro studio with a pro photographer and model. This will be limited to 10 participants who will be split into 2 groups with each group having a 1 hour session using flash- the other hour will involve talking about model photography and a demo of continuous lighting. Cost will be £15 per head and it will take place in Maidenhead. Contact me on gareth@ibraudit.com by 30th April to secure a slot.

TOG 2 end April

Get your images in. As a reminder

It is planned that the Group meets bi monthly by Zoom to review images provided by members. At each meeting the lead comments will be made by an established CACC ( Chilterns Association of Camera Clubs) Judge or a Committee member with additional comments by members. Meetings will be on the first Thursday of the month with the closing date for submission being the end of the month. The months in which Zoom meeting will be held will January, March, May, July, September and November with the first being March 2023

IMAGES

To encourage members to shoot more often images should be no more than a year old at the date of submission. Copyright remains with the photographer but RPS TV is allowed to use submitted images for RPS TV purposes. There are no categories.

Initially each member may submit up to three images numbered 1-3. Depending on the number of images submitted overall they will be used in that order.

This is not a competition but each meeting will choose an image of the month.

This is meant to be a relaxed forum to gently critique member’s images.

Woosehill 21st May

David Keep FRPS. Underwater and Sports Photographer

Stunning underwater images have recently led to David attaining his FRPS. He is also known for his equally stunning images of sport; join us and learn about both. David says that sport images are very successful on the competition circuit & there’s no surprise why - they almost guarantee an image with impact. But it’s often difficult to capture powerful sports shots during competitions, there’s just too much going on in the background, so David has developed a mobile studio approach to capture the more iconic poses. In the morning he’ll share his approach to gaining access, technical challenges on the day and the equipment he uses.

As well as an FRPS, David's underwater photography has achieved numerous international awards and, in the afternoon, he'll tell you how he goes about capturing his images. Behind the scenes videos accompany the stories as he covers sharks, crocodiles, diving gannets, turtles, sea lions and many more – plus his FRPS submission.
This is an exciting and unmissable opportunity to see and learn from an expert how to produce extraordinary dynamic images even if you cannot swim or high jump.

Proposed Thames Valley BBQ June 16th

We are proposing a TV BBQ at my house in Maidenhead on June 16th. We can host around 30 people (maybe a few more?). It will be free event but bring your own bottle. This should be a chance to meet members of the committee and, probably more importantly, other photographers in the Region. There will probably be enough car parking available either at my house or on a nearby car park. Let me know if you would like to come gareth@ibraudit.com

As I hope you can see we have been busy as a Committee in trying to create a variety of events both live and online. We could do with more volunteers to help both for the Region and Woosehill. It won’t take over your life but will give an opportunity to move Thames Valley RPS forward. Contact me.

The link to our Facebook page is at the bottom of this missive it would be great if you signed up as when something comes up and we have limited time we tend to post there or on Instagram or TikTok. Please spare a minute or two. We are also in the early stages of trying to link up with other RPS regional and special interest social media links based on an idea from Steven.

Thames Valley is a large region and the Committee is determined to provide opportunities to TV members. Remember to stay in touch by following our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram feeds.
