‘What Makes Judges Tick’
If you were one of the thirty plus souls who braved Storm Ciara to attend February’s regional event, you’ll already know what a thoroughly enjoyable time was had by all in RPS House last Sunday.
In the first part of the meeting Sue O’Connell FIPF, ARPS, ERAP/d1, DPAGB, BPE5*, an accredited PAGB judge and member of the WCPF Judge Training team, gave us her insight on what judges are looking for when assessing an image - good points as well as areas for improvement. Using a selection of her own images Sue demonstrated how preparation for taking a shot, in-camera techniques and post-production can all work to produce great images.
This was followed with a fabulous group session facilitated by Sue and Peter Brisley ARPS, AFIAP, DPAGB, BPE 2*, also an accredited PAGB judge, where attendees who brought along prints had the opportunity for them to be reviewed by their peers acting as judges. Very good fun and some invaluable feedback for those who showed prints. The time flew past.
I’ve no doubt all who were there will in future employ Peter’s top tip on examining prints upside down before submitting them for judging. You really do see things that you might have missed when looking at it ‘right way up’. Try it yourself.
Sincere thanks to Sue and Peter for their insight and enthusiasm. Much appreciated by all.
