Online Wildlife Photography Workshop - Robert Harvey ARPS

This is a two-day online wildlife photography workshop, you will be able to take your own photographs in between the two sessions.

From birds to butterflies and mammals to wild flowers, this two-day course will show you how to photograph an incredible variety of wildlife on our doorsteps and throughout the British Isles.  We will look at equipment, techniques and locations to find charismatic species and make striking images. The course will build an appreciation of what makes a good wildlife photograph and how to bring all the right elements together.  The first day will concentrate on fundamental techniques, birds and mammals.

Participants will then be encouraged to photograph birds in their gardens or at a location such as a wetland near their homes (suggestions will be provided).  The second day will start with a review by the tutor and group discussion of these images, followed by sessions on macro photography of insects, flowers and fungi.

Level: To get the most out of the course students should already understand the basics of exposure, shutter speed, aperture and ISO; and be comfortable handling their cameras using both aperture priority and manual exposure mode.

Recommended Photographic Equipment: Digital single lens reflex camera or equivalent capable of taking acceptable quality images at ISO 1600 or higher, telephoto lens (e.g. 400mm), macro lens, tripod and/or monopod.

The Tutor: Professional photographer Robert Harvey is an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society and holds the Excellence award of the Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique. He is inspired by remote locations such as coasts, mountains and deserts, where untamed land is sculpted by natural elements. Based in Wiltshire, he leads wildlife photography tours throughout the British Isles for iconic species such as seabirds, mountain hares, red squirrels, otters, owls and sea eagles.  He has photographed all 58 species of British butterflies and over 40 species of British orchids.  Overseas he is experienced with top wildlife locations such as Yellowstone, Serengeti, Pantanal, Galapagos and Falklands.  He regularly lectures to specialist photographic audiences around the country and is the author of several books on photography.
