Mervyn Mitchell ARPS

Awarded the Presidents Medal in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the Society over a sustained period.

Mervyn was awarded his RPS Associate in 2016 and was elected by RPS Members to the RPS board in 2021. During his tenure as a Trustee (2021 to 2024) Mervyn chaired the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion  (EDL) committee and was instrumental in developing the RPS Inclusion guidelines / policy and promoting the benefits of an inclusive membership.

As a Member who believes in the role and importance of the RPS regions, Mervyn will continue to offer his support as the RPS develops and grows in the future. 

Mervyn Mitchell has been a photography educator for the past 16 years working within communities surrounding his home town of Nottingham. His initial collaboration was founding  "Art on the Square", an initiative which brought together local Artists and their work and the local people of Nottingham.

As the founder and director of ‘Nottingham Photographers Hub’, a social enterprise company, Mervyn worked with community groups and vulnerable people using photography as a tool for reducing mental health issues and developing visual creativity, from 2010 to 2023.

It was during this time that Mervyn received his MA in Photography, and was the winner of the Belle France competition, he was selected to exhibit his work in local Art Galleries ‘The New Art Exchange’ and ‘The Harley Gallery’ in Nottinghamshire. Mervyn has also exhibited his work at the ‘Les Comptoirs du Fleuve art gallery in Senegal.

Mervyn’s images reflect his photographic vision “The click of the shutter is just the beginning of creating Photo Art”.
