Yas Crawford is a fine art photographer, visual artist and multidisciplinary collaborator who has exhibited internationally. She was born in Pembrokeshire, Wales, where the landscape and biological make-up have subliminally influenced her work. With a degree in Geology and a Masters degree in photography, Crawford has worked in various business roles, non-profits, as a mentor and entrepreneur in life sciences. She is now working in what she calls the Grey Space in between disciplines.
Her photography informs what can often be complex scientific ideas artistically and abstractly to a variety of audiences. Her layered photographic artwork, combined with illustration, video and cameraless techniques are rooted in mapping theory. She explores evolutionary change, reflecting its impact on humanity. She aims to inspire a creative dialogue that navigates the complexities of science and other disciplines.
She has received international awards including winner of the Art of Neuroscience Award 2021 from the Netherlands Institute of Neurosciences. Important international exhibitions include the Art of Neuroscience, Singelkirk, Amsterdam with Cognition IX. This image now is on permanent display at the Netherlands Institute of Neurosciences. More recently Yas Crawford has developed a podcast with Kingston University Pharmacology department as she develops her ideas and projects, bringing art and science closer together.
