Nicholas J R White, recipient of the TPA/RPS Environmental Bursary 2017 will be in conversation with Dr Michael Pritchard RPS Director, Education and Public Affairs.

Nicholas is a photographer based on Dartmoor National Park, South West England. He works on long-term projects in addition to undertaking commercial and editorial assignments internationally.

His personal work examines the landscape and the ways in which we interact with our natural spaces. In 2017, Nicholas was named as a winner in the Lens Culture Emerging Talent Awards and was awarded The Royal Photographic Society Environmental Bursary for his series, ‘Black Dots’, exploring mountain bothies and bothy culture throughout the United Kingdom. This bursary helped Nicholas to begin working on his current work-in-progress, ‘Carpathia’, documenting the formation of a new European wilderness reserve in the Southern Carpathian Mountains of Romania.

Nicholas’s work has also been included in the Magenta Foundation Flash Forward, British Journal of Photography Portrait of Britain and named as Judges Choice in Landscape Photographer of the Year.

His debut monograph, Black Dots, was published by Another Place Press in 2018.
