When Giles Penfound came to talk to RPS East Midlands a few years ago it was to talk about his documentary photography whilst serving as the Chief Press Photographer with the British Army which can be seen on vimeo by clicking here
In March 2022 we invited Giles back to the RPS East Midlands HQ for our first in-person talk for two years, which was so inspiring we have invited him back quickly so he can talk, via zoom, to those wherever they live in the world, who were not able to travel to the Nottingham area to see him.
Giles will talk about his photography now he has left the military which is all about telling stories using photography in his locality.
Giles has drawn a line around his locality, which is now where he makes his work
Like many documentary photographers, especially those in Magnum Giles prefers to use a couple of prime lenses, and in his case he uses film and a Leica that is older than he is. He will explain why.
He also prints from the negatives, creating images that feel as well as show the emotion of the story.
If you like people, you will enjoy sharing a cup of tea with Giles as he shares his photography with us
Hope to see you online on April 27th
Regards
Stewart
